Located on Amanak Island in Alaska’s Aleutian Chain, Unalaska is a small coastal community surrounded by breathtaking scenery. From volcano peaks to green valleys, Unalaska is full of rich, diverse history where culture and commerce exist in balance and where World War II left a mark on the land and its people. 

Unalaska is home to Dutch Harbor which is not only the number one commercial fishing port in the nation but is also home to Discovery Channel’s famed show Deadliest Catch. Pollock, Pacific cod, halibut, Atka mackerel, sablefish, and yellowfin sole are fished from Dutch Harbor, and crab fisheries have historically played a large role in the life and economy of Unalaska. 

While staying in Unalaska, there are plenty of opportunities to admire the surrounding scenery and area’s history from various perspectives. Popular historic attractions include the Museum of the Aleutians and The Holy Ascension of Our Lord Cathedral. For lovers of the outdoors, popular adventures include sportfishing, birding and hiking. A must-do hike is Bunker Hill Hike which passes prehistoric sites as well as numerous WWII ruins while offering glimpses of eagles and marine life, and 360-degree views of the island.
